We are pleased to report that we received over 1300 applications for the bursary combined from the SGPS and AMS Membership.

Prior to COVID-19, the AMS had a long-standing contract with Kingston Transit called “Bus-It”. Usually a 3 year contract, this agreement provided our students with a full-access bus pass through a $90 mandatory fee once yearly.  After the contract is negotiated and signed with the City of Kingston, the AMS and SGPS are required to go to referendum to secure the approval of the student body to be allowed to place the Student Activity Fee on the fee slates. When COVID-19 emerged, the Bus-It Contract was in its 2nd of 3 years and the AMS decided to terminate the contract for the final year so as not to charge students for a service they likely would not receive.

The AMS will always prioritize providing safe and financially accessible public transit to those who need it. Therefore, the AMS is pleased to continue the negotiated agreement with the City of Kingston to allow for a temporary student bus pass option. The reduced rate of the pass is $119 per term.

The Fall pass will operate from September 1, 2021 until January 3, 2022 and the pass must be purchased directly through the City of Kingston.

The AMS will continue the Bus Pass Bursary to increase accessibility of the student bus pass.  All AMS and SGPS members who have purchased a bus pass will be able to access the bursary.

Students who wish to obtain a bus pass or learn more about the program can visit the  Kingston Transit student page. This page will include more information on how to purchase and obtain the pass. When purchasing the pass, please ensure that you use your @queensu.ca email and input your student number correctly.

After purchasing the pass from Kingston Transit, you may apply for the Bus Pass Bursary, found below. The application period for the bursary will close on October 3rd, 2021 at 11:59pM EST
